As face coverings go from a novelty to the norm during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s understandable that some frustrations would arise from wearing fabric on part of your face any time you might be around other people. None are aggravating enough to not wear a mask — please, just wear a damn mask — but this accessory we’ve reluctantly welcomed into our attire has inevitably led to some skin issues. It has also inevitably led to innovations to address skin issues.

A brand called Nufabrx has just launched a mask called Soliscia, the fabric of which is infused with both copper and shea butter. Calling the mask the first of its kind, Nufabrx says that in addition to helping reduce the spread of germs, Soliscia ensures that the skin it’s covering

Maskne: How to Take Care of Your Skin While Wearing a Face Mask

frank lampard

As we adjust to the important (and in some places mandatory) act of wearing a mask during the current global health crisis, our skin is also adjusting. Though very much necessary, a study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology reported a 97 percent rate of skin damage enhanced by infection-prevention measures among front line medical workers in Hubei, China.

While the bruises and skin injuries documented by some frontline workers come from the necessity of wearing personal protective equipment at a tight fit for the entirety of their long shifts, cloth masks or other face coverings used by the general public will also impact each person’s skin differently. If you’re experiencing “maskne” or other skin irritations, know you’re not alone. We asked experts how to take care of our skin during this new normal.

How Will Wearing a Mask Impact My Skin?

Editor’s note: As we will report below, experts agree that face shields — and face masks — do not replace or relieve the need to wash your hands and social distance, and they absolutely do not alone prevent the spread of COVID-19.

As cases surge across the country, more than half of U.S. states require wearing face coverings while in public to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Many retailers have begun selling non-medical masks and masks with extra protection, like insertable filters or antimicrobial materials. Another new protective trend? Face shields. The coronavirus pandemic has meant that face masks and coverings will become part of daily life. The UK government and the World Health Organisation (WHO) have both advised wearing face coverings in a bid to reduce the infection transmission of Covid-19.

It was recently announced that from 24 July, face coverings will be mandatory in all shops and supermarkets in England. People who don’t wear one will face a fine of up to £100, apart from people with medical conditions and children under 11.

If you’re picking up a takeaway coffee or food in England, you’ll also have to wear a mask, but this rule doesn’t apply to sit-in meals. The Northern Ireland secretary, Brandon Lewis, confirmed: “If you’re going in to buy a takeaway, and leaving

Congress Holds The Economy In Its Hands As Millions Face ‘Income Cliff’

frank lampard

More than 25 million Americans are about to lose most of their income thanks to the looming expiration of the $600-per-week expanded federal unemployment benefits.

Congress created the extra benefits in March so that people who lost their jobs because of the coronavirus pandemic would be able to stay home and not feel desperate to go out and make money, as social distancing remains the best way to fight the contagion.

But lawmakers set the benefits to expire on July 31 ― a policy choice that will result in an across-the-board collapse of incomes and reverberate through the economy if it is not renewed. Many workers will receive their final federal checks next week with rent and mortgage payments coming due.

Jami Janes of Meadow Vista, California, worked as a server in a restaurant before the pandemic shut things down in March. She said 10 weeks lapsed between when she

As cases of COVID-19 continue to spike across the country, many states, including Colorado, Arkansas and Alabama, have implemented new face mask requirements. Many retailers have also added requirements for face coverings. On Monday, Gap announced a mask policy in its stores, effective Aug. 1, and plenty of fellow big retailers, like Walmart, Best Buy, Target and CVS, have recently put mask requirements in place for shoppers.

But despite all these requirements, refusal to wear a mask has become a political sticking point for some. Now antimaskers have resorted to a new tactic: wearing a mask that doesn’t offer any protection.

People are sharing videos and tweets of themselves flouting face covering guidelines by wearing masks made of thin material, like mesh, crochet and lace.

Face mask recommendations and laws vary between cities,

Where to Buy Face Masks Online That Are Fashionable

frank lampard

The fashion world is stepping up in a time of need: Countless companies are now making, selling and donating non-medical grade face masks for daily protection from COVID-19.

Demand for cloth face mask options has soared in recent months, in part because the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommends wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) masks in public settings to help slow the spread of COVID-19. PPE masks are usually made from breathable a fabric like cotton and differ from a surgical mask and N95 respirators that experts say should be reserved for health care workers who are caring for the sick.

In times of crisis, it’s heartwarming to see companies we love giving back using the tools and skills they know best. Nordstrom, the largest employer of tailors in the country, has trained its alterations teams to make face masks to distribute to health care workers, while designer
